Besides being an actress, South African born Tu Nokwe is a singer, guitarist, composer, lyricist, teacher and mother. Her passion and love for children and community is the driving force behind her music. This has seen her Album, African Child win ‘Best release from Africa’ on the British world music magazine. In South Africa, she has performed for the corporate, government and commercial audiences. She acted in the international movies Shaka Zulu and The Red Scorpion. Besides creating numerous artistic productions, including a Musical ‘Singing the Times’ a story about her mother’s life, she gave birth to the original Sarafina concept and groomed the Amajika Artists for this musical, which subsequently became a hit on the Broadway and resulted into a movie.
